How to Use the Stitch Calculator
Click here for the Stitch Calculator
A very huge Thank You to Serendipity Crochet for the Formula he has posted for this little Sweater Calculator. Stop by and say Hi, there is a lot of very useful information on crochet and how to design your own patterns. Well here is my first attempt to program a little something that might help to convert patterns to make them larger or smaller. I will do my best to explain how this will help. Before you can use this little calculator you must and I can’t say it enough MUST do a Gauge Swatch that is at least 2 x 2 inches. Try to make the swatch square as possible. If you need help please see my previous article Gauge or you can use the gauge that is suggested on the pattern but then you will run the risk of it not fitting or turning out like you really want it to. On to the Sweater Calculator After you have made your swatch, 1. measure your stitches, enter that number into the first blank box. 2. insert the inches (length of your swatch) into the second blank box. Click on the Calculate button 3. measure your rows, enter that number into the next blank box. 4.enter the inches into the next blank box Click on the Calculate button 5.enter the calculated figure from the stitches per inch box. 6.enter the width you WANT the pattern to be Click on the Calculate button 7.enter the calculated figure from the rows per inch box. 8.enter the length you WANT the pattern to be Click on the Calculate button 9.enter the stitches at the widest part of the pattern 10.enter the stitches at the narrowest part of the pattern Click on the Calculate button. Use the Stitches per inch and needed width to get your figures for #9 & #10. The last figure is the number of stitches that you need to Increase/Decrease on each SIDE of your project. For example your bottom half is 20 and the top half is 10, the calculator will give you a figure of 5, which means that you would have to decrease evenly a total of 5 stitches on each side of your project. The reset button just resets it back to zero so you can use whatever one you need. This little gadget will come in handy to make a pattern bigger or smaller. If you have any questions just send me an email or post on the forum. Have fun !!
